Staying "connected''.

The running theme, for this year is " Staying Connected " ! My vision is for BLSA, alumni, and the community to stay engaged with one another in all activities and events whether it is a speaking engagement such as Retired Justice Reuben Anderson on campus; a community service event such as our reading and literacy program with Lafayette Elementary; or even a social event such as enjoying the Grove during Homecoming. The month of October is extremely monumental for the University and BLSA. On October 1 st , the University commemorated 50 years of integration by honoring the bravery of James Meredith. BLSA contributed by celebrating over 45 years of the law school's integration by hosting " A Talk with Retired Justice Reuben Anderson. " In addition, on October 26 th , we will host an honor reception for U.S. Attorney Felicia Adams, the first female to be appointed to U.S. Attorney in Mississippi. During this time of celebration, the campus will be swarming with all greats especially from the legal community. So stay tuned and stay connected with BLSA and the university this school year! Eleanor Roosevelt once said, " When you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die ". Networking " The networking committee plans to fulfill this year's theme by honoring alumni, hosting monthly speaker series, and building an attorney/student mentorship program. Events have already " kicked off " for the Fall semester and we are looking forward to even more events in the Spring. " Jessica McLaurin, Networking Committee Chair The community service committee began Part I of its voter registration drive on September 17th in the University of Mississippi Student Union. Part II of the Voter registration drive took place on Sunday, September 30th at The T.O.M.B building in Oxford, MS. In collaboration with community leaders and churches, the committee registered over 80 individuals to vote by the October deadline.
